1935 Canterbury College Review Excerpt

EVANGELICAL UNION

HISTORY, IT is said, has a habit of repeating itself; but the catacombs which have recently been discovered at Canterbury College are notable rather for "Life with a Capital L" than for the "Corruption and Dead Men's Bones" usually associated therewith; for there throughout the year, members of the Evangelical Union have continued to enjoy their fellowship, spiritual and intellectual, as in former years.

Outstanding events of the year have been the Freshers' "Squash," when a welcome was extended to interested Freshers; Sunday Teas which have provided an opportunity of hearing forceful addresses followed by informal discussion over tea, and of great importance, and we expect of far-reaching consequence, was the visit of Mr Stacey Woods, general secretary of the Inter-Varsity Fellowship of Evangelical Unions of Canada. He had much to tell from his own experiences of the work both in Canadian and Australian universities; and the interchange of ideas has proved stimulating and of practical value, an encouragement and an inspiration.

Many of our members took an active part in the Young Life Campaign, held in the Durham Street Art Gallery in June, the value of which is testified to by numbers of grateful young people throughout the city.

The main strength of the Union, however, has always lain in the Study Circles and Devotional Meetings, whence, quietly but steadily, members have continue to draw the inspiration which is found in communion with Our Risen Lord, through His Word which is Truth.
